The Grand Express, Russia�s first privately owned and operated luxury passenger train, was launched Wednesday, offering a daily overnight service between St. Petersburg and Moscow. A one-way ticket starts at 3,150 rubles ($110) to travel in a shared sleeping compartment, after which prices are for a private space. The most expensive ticket costs 12,500 rubles ($437) for a compartment with an en-suite bathroom, DVD player and Internet access. The new train is operated by Grand Service Express, which invested 1.2 billion rubles ($41.96 million) in the venture, said Andrei Kudryavtsev, the company�s general director. Grand Service Express will use Russian Railways, or RZD, infrastructure. Neither party disclosed how much is being paid. �We hope that more private trains like this will enter the market. This is an exclusive way of traveling, a five-star hotel on wheels,� said Transportation Minister Igor Levitin at the launch of the service at Moscow�s Leningradsky Station. |
