According to Georgy Luntovsky, first deputy chairman of the Bank of Russia, the new, 5,000-ruble (about $180) denomination notes, already dubbed as both a symbol of Russia's growing prosperity and "Russian billionaires' money," could be released in late June to early July. The new banknotes will not, however, immediately go into the pockets of the rich. First of all, they will be used to form a Central Bank reserve. This reporter visited a plant under the jurisdiction of the Main Administration for Production of State Bank Notes, Coins, and Medals (Goznak) where the first batch of new bills was printed.
