One of the oldest Russian towns – Yaroslavl – is getting ready to celebrate its anniversary in 2010, with a whole host of solemn and festive events embracing diverse spheres of the town’s life being timed to this date. Within the framework of the preparation for the jubilee, the construction of new edifices including hotels is well under way. By 2010 10 new hotels in different districts of the city are expected to have been built.
One of the new hotels will probably belong to the renowned hotel chain Marriott. The town’s mayor and the Inter-Otel company have already signed a treaty on the realization of the hotel project. The Marriott hotel will be located in the Yaroslavl downtown next to the Volzhskaya quay.
Aside from that, 3 new hotels for 450 places will be built, namely a hotel complex for 150 places on the Moskovskiy avenue, a tourist complex with the same accomodation capacity in the Frunzenskiy district and a hotelby the Moscovskiy railway terminal. In the Petropavlovsky park of the Krasnoperekopskiy district the Petrovskiy park hotel will be built, while in the Pavlik Morozov street near the Yaroslavl-Glavniy station – a commercial, business and hotel complex. The largest hotel in town – the Yubileynaya hotel is under active reconstruction. Besides, several other hotels will be erected in the Kirovskiy, Leninskiy and Frunzenskiy districts of the city.
The first record of Yaroslavl in annals dates back to 1071. However, according to the legend, the town was founded by Yaroslav the Wise in 1010 by the junction of the Volga and Kotorosl rivers on the spot of the ancient pagan settlement «Medvezhiy Ugol» («Bear Corner»).
