Today, on August 1, 2007, the All-Russian Exhibition Center in Moscow celebrates the 68th anniversary since the day of its opening. The first working day of the exhibition center was on August 1, 1939. At that moment it was a big and important event. There were no analogues of such exhibition areas in Russia. It was a whole exhibition city, with huge area, a great number of buildings, with its streets, parks, fountains, agricultural property. Exhibition pavilions were also unique – every building reflected the culture and architectural traditions of one of the Soviet republics. Moreover the exhibition center in the whole glorified the unity of different peoples in USSR; the People’s Friendship fountain (which represents a khorovod of girls in national costumes) played the same role. During the period of its work the exhibition center changed the name several times. Initially it was called the All-Union Industrial Exhibition, then – the All-Union Exhibition of People’s Economic Achievements. And finally the modern name appeared in 1992 – the All-Russian Exhibition Center. The Cosmos hotel, which is situated near the VVCenter, is waiting for its guests. |
