The Year of China in Russia that was officially opened yesterday in Moscow manifests itself in the Tretyakov Gallery.
Today is the opening day of the exhibition "White Gold". In the 16-17th centuries the term was used by Europeans to refer to china, considered true luxury.
The history of fine porcelain, an outstanding invention of China, counts thousands of years. In the first centuries of the Common Era china workshops appeared in one of the towns of Jiangsu province in the east of China. The town named Jingdezhen became the leading centre for fine porcelain production in China. The chinaware made there was "blinding like snow, thin like paper, and firm like metal".
The exhibition runs till May.
