A new up-to-date Intercontinental Hotel Complex will be opened at the spot of the Minsk Hotel that was destroyed in 2006. 211 guest rooms, conference halls, a restaurant, a fitness center, a SPA center, office and trade areas and an underground parking for 400 cars will be accommodated in the space of 64 thousand square meters. The project of the building is in preparation at the 5th office of the Mosproject-2 company under the direction of Mikhail Leonov. A computer model of the hotel, which will appear in 2009 in Tverskaya Street, a unique symbol of Moscow and whole Russia, is already finished. Now it is already clear that this stylish building of bricks with large windows will adorn the center of the city and will possibly become one of aesthetic symbols of Moscow.
The three-star Minsk Hotel was opened in 1964 in 22 Tverskaya Street and numbered 336 rooms on ten floors at comparatively moderate prices. After all these years the building became out of date and in 2006 it was completely destroyed. The new hotel, the first member of the Intercontinental Hotels Group in Russia, will pertain to a higher category and will be of course more luxurious and expensive. Twelve floors will be constructed above ground that agrees with surrounding buildings height, and six floors will be underground. Construction works have already started.
