Up to May 4 the Engineer building of the Tretyakovskaya gallery (not far from the Alrosa na Kazachyem hotel) will house an exhibition of the graphic works by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) from the collection of the Library of the National Institute of the Art History of France. The exhibition entitled «The pleasures of Paris» represents 83 etchings and lithographs by the famous post-impressionist including the popular bill series «Moulin Rouge. La Goulue» (Toulouse-Lautrec was one of the first artists to turn a placard into genuine art), book drawing, restaurant menus decorated by the artist, the «Elles» series dedicated to women, drafts of horses and dogs – his favourite animals. Special attention should be paid to the unique self-portrait of the artist from the private collection in Switzerland. According to the facilitator of the exhibition Ekaterina Seleznyova, all the works represent very lively material often accompanied by the signatures and comments of Toulose-Lautrec. Diverse plots of the works enable to plunge into the atmosphere of Montmartre of the «belle epoque», to sense its original spirit and motion. The graphich works by Toulouse-Lautrec are part of the collection made by the artist’s contemporary Jacques Doucet that he subsequently donated to the National Institute of the Art History of France. The exhibition «Toulouse-Lautrec. Pleasures of Paris» forestalls an extensive cultural program of the coming year of France if Russia and the year of Russia in France.
