The administration of Saint Petersburg and Russian Railways plan to built a Kids’ railway in the city. It will be a very interesting route – from Vitebskiy Railway Station to Carskoe Selo. It may seem that Kids’ railway is a toy railroad car and toy metal. However there are real trains and true locomotives. But the salt is that schoolboys and schoolgirls will be engineers, yard-masters and conductors. Of course everything will be done under the direction of adults.
The length of the Kids’ railway is planned to be a few kilometers. It won’t cross the main railroad system. The Kids’ railway doesn’t have any transportation importance. It will be used basically as attraction.
The cost of the project is about 1,3 mlrd rubles. The governor of Saint Petersburg region Valentina Matvienko says, the financing will be carried out by the administration of the city and with assistance of Russian Railways. The date of project realization is not established yet.
The guests of the Eliseev Palace Hotel will be able to travel to Carskoe Selo by the train conducted by schoolboys.
