A real investment boom has been taking shape recently in tourist objects of Gorny Altai. New recreation centers and hotels are opening, mini-hotels and cottages on the basis of former village houses are springing up. Excellent conditions for sports and treatment attract both Russians and foreigners.
The most popular districts are the bank of the Katun River, the northern part of Teletskoe Lake, Belokurikha, Chemal, Aya Lake, the Biryuzovaya Katun resort. The most attended place in Altai is certainly the Biryuzovaya Katun near the artificial lake of the same name, with beaches and leisure centers. Belokurikha, a world-famous balneological, resort compares well with it. There are many health centers that always make a good showing.
If in 2007 there were approximately 400 hotels, recreation centers and houses to rent in the region, this year their number will increase. In addition to reconstruction of old tourist objects, renovation of accommodation facilities, opening of new buildings adjoining to existent hotels and enlargement of services range, new holiday centers are opening – the Guest House of Evdokimovs (a comfortable cottage with 11 rooms and a restaurant), the Globus+ (a complex on the bank of the Katun River with 96 rooms and good infrastructure), the Usadba Sarzhevskih (6 cottages of cedar), the Biryuzovaya Katun (18 rooms in two cottages), etc.
By the way this year tourists will be offered the unique tour “Solar Eclipse in Altai” that will take place on August 1. In this very place close to virgin nature this phenomenon will be particularly exciting.
