October 30 will see the world premiere of Boyarynya Morozova, a new opera. The director of Chamber Choir of Moscow Conservatoire Boris Tevlin turning 75 years old had asked Rodion Shchedrin to write a choir composition for his jubilee. This is how Rodion Shchedrin completed the composition he had worked on for thirty years.
"It is a very important composition for me, – says Mr. Shchedrin, – because for many years I had wanted to approach the theme of that bloody conflict, the dissent of Orthodox religion tracing three hundred years back".
