The exhibition covers the history of duels in Russia, from 1637 till the beginning of the 20th century. In 1637 a duel was documented for the first time. And in 1894 duels were legalized after a long period of prohibition. Both ordinary and well-known people took part in duels, among them – poets, generals, officers, men of history and culture. Most famous names of duelists are: poets A.S.Pushkin, M.Lermontov, N.Gumilyov, writers I.Turgenev, L.Tolstoy. Different arms were popular in different periods of time – there were court swords, sabers, rapiers, guns. Famed armourers were often invited to make the arms.
