This week Moscow government is discussing the possibility of creation of water taxi in the capital of Russia. It is another attempt of Moscow authorities to handle the traffic problem.
The idea of water taxi has been deliberated more than once, but still there are no taxi-boats on Moscow rivers. In April 2006 the mayor of the city Yuri Luzhkhov talked about development of water buses-catamarans able to convey up to 50 persons. According to his plans, such catamarans must be equipped with systems allowing this water transport means to moor independently.
The first two tens of passenger catamarans are expected to appear on Moscow water routes within the next three years. In the beginning the new transportation will bear experimental character to let specialists gather information on passengers` needs and possibilities of linking water transport with overland one.
