A town made of cardboard and paper was opened yesterday in the exhibition centre of «PRÎÅÊÒ_FÀBRIÊÀ». According to the conception of the project’s authors, Cardboardtown is supposed to be simultaneously the place for an interactive fair, a music festival and the role play «Become a Character of Kartonia». At the same time, the project is targeted at both children and adults. Cardboardtown is situated on 500 square metres in the Olivier hall. The buildings made of cardboard and paper reach 2,5 metres. The «infrastructure» of the town comprises a Hotel, a Cardboard Bank, a Fashion House, a Photo Studio, an Employment Agency, a Post Office, a Car Park and a Chargeable Volunteer Prison. The city life is in full swing – the squares and streets host such events as the elections of the Head of State and demonstrations, carnival processions and concerts, fashion shows and art exhibitions. The shops and stores witness brisk trade, while the central square is a venue of evening concerts and performances. The streets and buildings of the town were decorated by professional artists. Their workshops and galleries are open on the territory of «Kartonia» and enable everyone to buy paintings, handmade souvenirs and postcards, as well as contribute to building and decorating the city walls. This Cardboardtown in the Olivier Hall is the second materialization of the «Kartonia Land». The first such project – «Papertown» was fulfilled last year in the Kolomenskoe park. Sergey Korsakov, author of the idea and head of the Bad Taste producer group, says that this summer we can expect the third embodiment of «Kartonia» – the Pushkin town dedicated to the great Russian poet will be built on Nikitsky Boulevard. The city borders can be «crossed» gratis up to January 20.
