The chief of the Moscow Civilian Registry Office Directorate Irina Muravyova told that the new Wedding Palace would be opened in the near future in the capital that would officially become the main civilian registry office of Moscow. It will occupy the former Gagarins’ residence in Strastnoy Boulevard not far from the Golden Apple Hotel. The building was constructed upon the project of the famous architect Osip Bove. It is renowned for hosting the English Club in its time where a celebration was arranged in honor of Bagration (the event is perfectly described by Lev Tolstoy in “War and Peace”). At present time the manor is occupied by the 24th municipal hospital. In the second quarter of 2008 the hospital will move to another building and restoration works will start in the estate. The first couples are scheduled to marry at the new palace at the end of the year. The Main Wedding Palace of Moscow will carry out marriage registration in several halls at once. Its area amounts to more than three thousand square meters, and its operating schedule will differ from other civilian registry offices in Moscow. It is possible that it will operate 12 hours a day and 7 days a week. The French park will be recreated in the courtyard of the manor where newly wedded and their guests will be able to make a walk after the solemn ceremony. Another large wedding palace will be built in the Moscow City Business Center. It will be the biggest civilian registry office in Europe; its total area will amount to almost 170 thousand square meters. Nowadays the most popular civilian registry offices in Moscow are the 4th Wedding Palace, where marriage registration between Russian and foreign citizens is carried out as well, the 3rd Wedding Palace in the southeast of the capital and also the Griboedovsky civilian registry office.
