The most prestigious hotel in Saint Petersburg – Grand Hotel Europe – has announced the successful completion of the 3d period of its renovation. The total investment sum has amounted to $2 000 000. The large-scale overhaul started in 2005, in the year of the hotel’s 130th anniversary, aiming at the hotel’s improvement and renovation whilst retaining the authentic classic interiors of the late 19th-early 20th centuries. The three stages of the renovation resulted in the renewal of the 82 classic standard and 115 superior rooms, as well as in the reopening of the 12 unique junior suites under the dainty French name «Belle Chambre», with the restoration of each totaling $300 000. The renewed rooms and suites embrace both the elements of the traditional Russian decoration and high tech. The project was managed by the French designer Michel Jouannet, famous for the reconstruction of the historic interiors in several leading world hotels. The framework of the hotel’s renovation also comprised realizing of the new concept of the Mezzanine cafe – the favorite venue of Saint Petersburg residents. The cafe’s patio is now crowned with an airy glass awning, its original construction gently letting the sunlight in all day long. The atmosphere of luxury and refinement was additionally communicated to the cafe’s interior by the renewed glass balustrade and the new wattled Sheppard furniture from Belgium. The ultimate reconstruction of the hotel is to be completed by 2010.
