The inauguration of the first Austrian library in the region was held in Yekaterinburg last Thursday. In the opening ceremony taking place at the library of the city’s head Arkady Tchernetsky was attended by the Honorary Consul of the Austrian Republic in Yekaterinburg, the Head of the International Culture Department of the Foreign Ministry and the cultural attache to the Austrian Embassy in Russia. According to the press service of the City Mayor’s office, the book fund of the new library aggregates 750 books delivered from Vienna and comprises fiction, non-fiction and information materials, as well as periodicals. The fund is expected to be appended annually by the latest publications from different sources at the expense of the European and International Relations Ministry of the Austrian Republic. An access to the electronic stacks of all the Austrian libraries is also expected to be achieved in the very near future. All the books available at the library are written in German and thereby this project is first of all aimed at professional linguists and philologists, as well as students of the departments of foreign languages. Interestingly enough, Yekaterinburg has become the forth Russian city to get an Austrian library, which indicates the high scientific and cultural level of the Ural capital. Other representations of the library are located in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Nizhniy Novgorod.
