Early this week Moscow witnessed the opening of the traditional “December Nights” at the Pushkin museum of fine arts (near the Kebur Palace Hotel) that were founded by the famous musician Svyatoslav Richter. The principal theme of this issue was announced as the image of Road in the art of different cultures and epochs. The festival is accompanied by a corresponding conceptual exhibition under the name “The Evolution of the Way in the art of XVII-XX centuries”. This project represents the ultimate part of the trilogy implemented by the well-known arts critic and facilitator Irina Danilova. At the exhibition the visitors are suggested to encounter some famous foreign “guests” such as the Italians Domenico Fetti and Luigi Luara, the Dutchmen Jordans, Hobbema and Van Gogh, the Frenchman Henry Rousseau. On the opposite wall one meets the Russian “response”: Levitan, Ivanov, Nesterov, Pimenov, Perov, Goncharova, Kustodiev, Malevich. Strolling along the museum passages, you get subconsciously involved with the plots and spirit of the paintings and with your inner view start cherishing some lovely holiday scenes: the winding road disappearing in some unknown (and therefore so tempting) distance, some warm and confiding talk with a friendly companion, and finally – the vague outline of a small roadside hotel showing up out of the twilight – the place where you can stay overnight, cuddle up cozily in front of the fireplace and continue indulging in your sweet romantic reveries. The exhibition is open from December 2 till January 27 in the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.
