On the territory of the Apsheron district of the Krasnodar region a new high-level ski resort – the mountain climatic Lago-Naki resort - is to be opened. Under the project of the special regional program «Development of the mountain climatic resort Lago-Naki for 2008-2012» considerable sums of money will be allotted on the repair of the infrastructure of the region’s tourist routes, as well as the creation of new ski routes with the total spread amounting to 35-40 km. there are 3 ski routes in the Apsheron district at present – one for 1 000 metres and two for 100. Among the main tasks of the project is the creation of routes that would surpass the routes the popular Krasnaya Polyana in terms of their diversity and technical characteristics. The height of the mountains (up to 2 000 metres) enables to build ski routes of different levels, with the snow lying here 6 months a year attracting a stable tourist flow not only at weekends but on weekdays as well. Apart form the routes, some objects of accommodation will be erected on the territory of the Mezmayskoe and Nizhegorodskoe living areas, including hotels and autocamping-sites. All the resort’s objects will be built in compliance with the demands of the ecological legislation, which is determined by the territorial proximity to the Caucasian state natural biosphere reserve. Thanks to the program, local authorities hope to expand the services of the tourists’ complex, number of workplaces in the resort sphere and provide the surge of investments. On finishing the project, the Apsheron district will be likely to become the most popular resort of the Southern Russia. The district is expected to attract up to 1 mln tourists annually by 2014.
