The famous Pashkov House, an architectural monument that was closed for visits in remote 1988 because of an accident condition, opens today in Moscow. This beautiful building in Mokhovaya Street belongs to the Russian State Library. Transportation of the library stock into the restored building has already started and will be finished in August 2008. The director of the Russian State Library Victor Fedorov assured that renovated halls of the library would be able to receive the first readers next autumn. One of the first events that will be held in the newly opened Pashkov House will be demonstration of works of the most famous artists, among whom we can mention Peter Paul Rubens, Amadeo Modigliani, Andy Warhol, Natalia Goncharova, and jewelers, including works of the Jewelry House of Faberge, which will take place from October 18 till 20. This exhibition is organized by the Christie's auction house, and all these works of art will be put up at international auctions this autumn. The Pashkov House was built upon the project of Vasily Bazhenov and was named after its first owner – captain-lieutenant of Semenovsky regiment Life-Guards Petr Pashkov. This building saw Frederick III, a king of Prussia; Voland said goodbye to Moscow here by the conception of Bulgakov, and Natasha Rostova, a character of Leo Tolstoy, danced here at her first ball. Nowadays the Melodia Hotel is situated near the Pashkov House.
