At the press conference of yesterday the head of the Moscow City Committee for Tourism Grigory Antufeev told that during the first half of 2007 the number of foreign tourist has increased by 15% as compared with the same period of 2006. During six months 1 million 637 thousand guests from abroad have visited Moscow, and here we only consider those who arrived in Moscow by airplane. During last year 3 million 732 thousand people came to Moscow from the whole world, the main part of them are citizens of Germany, the United States of America, China, Italy, Great Britain and Turkey. Each tourist spends about 900$ during his staying in Moscow. But for all that Grigory Antufeev disproved the opinion that Moscow is one of the most expensive cities of the world. The fact that Moscow does not lack for rooms in hotels in these circumstances is encouraging. The government of the city creates favorable conditions for building new hotels in the capital; their competition may cause reduction of an average cost of a guest room in Moscow. Now there are more than 200 hotels of different categories in Moscow, and by 2010 their number may redouble. Tourism is one of highly profitable and quickly upcoming field of Moscow economics that brings in almost 7% of an income of the city’s budget. By 2010 it is projected to achieve the quantity of 5 million foreign tourists per year, but the present rate of growth may cause an earlier attainment to this number.
