On Monday on September 3 an inauguration ceremony of the Confucius Institute on the basis of the Eastern Faculty took place at the Saint Petersburg State University. This institute is a member of a global chain of Chinese cultural and educational centers being created by the Ministry of education of the Chinese People’s Republic all over the world.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Alexander Zhukov and a member of the State Council of the Chinese People’s Republic CHen CHzhili that presented a bust of Confucius to the university participated in the inauguration. They spoke about the importance of cultural mutual relations between two countries and about widespread studying of the Chinese language in Russia and of the Russian language in China. According to the rector of the Saint Petersburg State University Ludmila Verbitskaya, the Confucius Institute, located on the Vasilievsky Island as the Marko Polo Saint Petersburg Hotel, will become a new platform for the study of the Chinese language, culture and mentality and will strengthen the friendship between our countries. Today China is getting one of the most important strategic partners of Russia. This year is announced as the year of China in Russia.
On the same day two exhibitions dedicated to the Chinese art were opened at once at the Russian museum. The first one is devoted to a traditional Chinese art – carved seals. Another one introduces to contemporary Chinese fine art. 43 pictures by 39 artists belong to the period when China followed the policy of “reforms and openness” initiated by Den Syaopin. Among then we can note paintings of world-famous Chzhan Syaogan.
