By November 1, 2007 Peterhof and Oranienbaum’s integration into a united museum and reserve will come to the end. As the head of the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography Mikhail Shvydkoy reported, the new complex in the environs of St Petersburg would be called State United Museum and Resort Peterhof-Oranienbaum and would pass into the federal ownership. The actual director of the Peterhof museum Vadim Znamenov will be the head of the complex and the present director of Oranienbaum Viktor Vorotnikov will possibly become his deputy.
The merger of both museums will be a very important step toward Oranienbaum’s long-expected reconstruction that has been facing financial difficulties for lack of injections from the federal budget. A resolution concerning assignation of 17 buildings of the Oranienbaum State Museum and Resort to the Peterhof museum has already been signed. After legal implementation of a similar procedure concerning the exhibit and modification of statutes and management structure of both museums the Oranienbaum museum will legally become a branch of the Peterhof museum.
The new museum complex can be easily reached from suburban St Petersburg hotels, for example, from the luxurious Baltic Star hotel that is located in the settlement of Strelna not far from Peterhof.
