In 2012 Russia will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the victory of Kutuzov’s army in the Patriotic War of 1812. Preparation for this date has already started in Moscow; a steering committee under the direction of the mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov was created which approved a plan of events for the next five years. Among them we can note issue of advertising, informational and souvenir production, organizing of subject exhibitions, shooting of documentary films, holding of courage lessons for schoolboys. Round tables, patriotic actions «Trains of Memory» with the assistance of youth organizations and veterans will take place in Moscow. It is also necessary to determine an emblem of the holiday.
In September 2011 a war and historic conference will take place in Moscow where results of the Patriotic War of 1812 will be examined and significance of the victory of our country in this far-reaching confrontation will be defined. Moreover, monuments and architectural constructions that keep the memory of this important event must be restored by 2012 – monuments to Mikhail Kutuzov and Petr Bagration, the gravestone of Denis Davydov in Novodevichy Cemetery, the Triumphal Arch, a mosaic panel on the front of the Borodino Battle Museum and Panorama, the museum building itself and the Kutuzov’s hut. More than 255 million rubles will be allotted for this purpose. The Volynskoe Congress-park hotel is located near Kutuzovsky prospect where most of the above monuments are situated.
