A new sightseeing tour under the name “Sverdlovsk-Yekaterinburg – the native city of Boris Yeltsin” is under elaboration now in Yekaterinburg. Next year all guests of the capital of Ural will be able to see “Yeltsin’s sights” – places that are someway concerned with the first Russian president. The itinerary will start by the railway station near the monument to volunteer tank men, and then tourists will proceed to the city center. Among points of interest we can mention the Historical Square, the old building of the regional committee, two houses where the first president of Russia formerly lived. Later the route passes near the Cathedral on the Blood (it was built on the spot of engineer Ipatiev’s house where the family of the last Russian emperor was shot and which was demolished in the time of Yeltsin’s work in Yekaterinburg), the Ural State Technical University (Boris Yeltsin graduated from it in 1955). The itinerary will finish in the Center of political history of Ural named after Yeltsin in Kominterna Street 16. The director of the center Anatoly Kirillov is a member of the tourism council attached to the city administration that prepares the route. This sightseeing tour will be interesting both for inhabitants of Yekaterinburg (including schoolchildren) and for tourists who are accommodated at hotels of the city. The first sightseers will take this itinerary by bus in April 2008.
