An unusual exhibition of Igor Makarevich and Elena Elagina, a married couple of artists, has been taking place at the XL gallery in Moscow since October 29. The “Russian idea” is a term that came from the pen of Dostoevsky. Berdyaev and Solovyev also reflected on it, and nowadays it is a matter of governmental prospecting. But it is such a complicated concept that every person means something special by that, and it is very hard to define it. Conceptualists and classics of modern art Makarevich and Elagina have applied themselves to philosophy more than once. This time they have collected objects, photos and films, which remind of origins of Russian consciousness one way or another. Twelve portraits of Russian philosophers (including for some reason Grigory Grabovoy, a latter-day “Messiah”), like twelve Apostles, look at you with exhortation, loafs of rye bread in various forms and native soil are showed nearby. Didactic character of the exhibition predetermines presentation of the displays. It will be an easy and pleasant walk through mysterious corners of Russian soul for foreigners, and Russian people will face flaming appeals to think about the destiny of our country and nation, to revive Russian philosophy. It is for visitors to decide if the authors succeeded in it. Guests of the Pokrovka Suite Hotel have a chance to know more about modern art and to visit this exhibition, which will take place in the territory of the Winzavod art center till November 19.
