On the eve of New Year all guests and inhabitants of Saint Petersburg can find themselves in the atmosphere of the tropics. An exhibition of rare butterflies opened in the exotarium of St Petersburg zoo. They arrived from European nurseries in the form of chrysalides and hatched out already in Russia. Rainforest environment is reproduced in a specially equipped room where dozens of fragile creatures form Asia and South America fly about at ease. Thoroughly chosen temperature rate allow them to fell at home. The hall is planted with exotics (orchids etc.). Visitors may both look at butterflies and let them warily alight on their hands. They feed on pollen, fruits and honey, and their lifetime amounts to about three weeks. Next to the butterflies you can find beetles, spiders and scorpions, including venomous ones that visitors are requested not to touch. Showcases with thousands species of collection butterflies are also presented here. To make the visit more interesting for animate nature lovers and particularly children the exhibit is disposed on the basis of names (Aglaya, Irina, Armenia, Far East and many others), colors and subjects (for example, the stand “Trojan War”). The exhibition opened on December 25 and will take place till April. The zoo in the Nothern capital is located not far from the Peter and Paul Fortress and the Guyot Hotel.
