On the last Saturday of August the mayor of Moscow Jury Luzhkov visited the State Museum-Reserve Tsaritsyno where a large-scale reconstruction have been underway on during the last two years. The mayor noted with satisfaction that the works were coming to the end and on September 1, when we celebrate the 860th anniversary of Moscow, the estate would salute in its full splendor. At the beginning of autumn a traditional honey fair transferred from Kolomenskoe to Tsaritsyno will take part here. The visitors will also be able to see an illuminated dynamic fountain.
At present the Grand Palace, three Cavalier Buildings, Large and Small Grotesque Bridges have already been restaured. During the works in the park remains of a three-chamber grotto, a construction in the form of a natural cave built under Catherine the Great, were discovered. Workmen will have to improve the neighboring area of almost 1500 hectares where Muscovites will be able to rest in the middle of trees and ponds.
The construction of the Tsaritsyno Grand Palace started in 1775, and in 1796 after the death of Catherine II, Empress of Russia, it stopped. The estate territory amounts to about 650 hectares. New hotels are to be built near the park.
In future the Lefortovo Park created with the assistance of Bartolomeo Rastrelli, an illustrious architect, and the Kolomenskoe State Museum-Reserve, where the palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich will be reconstituted, are to be reconstructed in Moscow.
