The State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia has been recognized by British critics as the best foreign theatre of 2006.
The collective of the Bolshoi Theatre, which celebrated its 230th anniversary last year, has been honoured with the British Critics' Circle National Dance Award. The ceremony of award took place on Thursday at the famous Sadler's Wells Theater in London.
The award was handed in to the art director of Bolshoi's ballet Alexei Ratmansky. He has been nominated for the Best Choreography Award for staging the ballet Svetly Ruchei (The Bright Stream).
In the nomination "The best foreign dance troupe" the Bolshoi had competed with the National Ballet of Cuba and the famous Argentine troupe Tango por Dos, however, the Russian theatre was rewarded for its last year tour in Covent Garden.
