In September the Sistine Chapel Choir reputed as a private papal choir will visit Moscow. As the cantors’ manager Marko Lauciani said, the Choir will present three concerts from September 12 till September 18, two public ones in the Great hall of the Moscow Conservatory and at the Moscow International House of Music and a private one; also it will participate in a Sunday holy mass at the St Louis Roman Catholic Church. One of the nearest hotels, the Savoy Hotel, looks forward to receiving its guests. As a famous conductor and the concert tour organizer Alexander Nevzorov explained, the idea to invite the Sistine Chapel Choir to Moscow occurred six years ago when its own choir sang for John Paul II. The current Pope gave his blessing to the Choir’s visit ahead because it would contribute to Russia and Vatican cultural collaboration and bridging between churches. For many centuries the Sistine Chapel Choir has been considered as one of the best religious choirs in the world. 1471 is the year of its creation. Now it numbers 55 cantors, more than a half of them are young, Monsignor Giuseppe Liberto became its director in 1997. It is possible that during their stay in Moscow the cantors will meet Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexius II and perhaps will perform some Orthodox musical compositions.
