An exposition showing the women who placed themselves on record in the political life of the 20th century opened at the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia. It is devoted to wives of leaders of the Soviet Union and Russia – from Alexandra Fedorovna, the last empress, to Ludmila Putina, the wife of today’s president of Russia. Portraits and personal belongings of the first ladies of the state will give the visitors of the exposition a very special impression of the Russian politics and history. Tamara Shumnaya, the director of the museum, thinks that this exhibition is really unique. It allows us to know much about the life of ten women, and each of them was imprinted in history. State archives, funds of Gorbachev and Eltsin rendered the displays for the exhibition. The first ladies of the country did not resemble each other, and articles, which remind of them, were selected to reproduce the spirit of the time. Among ht exhibit there is an elegant lace parasol of Alexandra Fedorovna, glasses and a brief case of Nadezhda Krupskaya, love-letters of Nadezhda Allilueva, portraits of Victoria Brezhneva in the family circle and Ludmila Putina in a foreign trip, a modest dress of Nina Khrusheva and irreproachable costumes of Raisa Gorbacheva on reporting photos that spread all over the world. The women had different characters and roles in politics, but their names added an important page to history. This exhibition is the first event of the project “Woman’s Face of Russia ”. In future other exhibitions will take place – “Maternal Instinct”, “Women Politicians” etc. The Museum of Contemporary History of Russia is located not far from the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
