The festival of Flower Gardens has become a traditional summer attraction in Moscow. More than a hundred gardeners from different Russian regions, including Vladimir, Tver, Yaroslavl, Penza, Cherepovets, Lipetsk and St. Petersburg have descended on the capital this summer to participate in the fourth festival which will be held in the Luzhniki sport complex and Kuzminki park till the end of September.

Luzhniki has been chosen as a location for this year's festival due to its 50th anniversary. All flower compositions are unified by the same concept - The Sport World - which had been determined by the organizer, the Institute of the City Ecology. Florists and landscape designers have created 118 flower compositions inspired by judo tournaments, pole-vaults, football championship, regattas, chess, tennis and other sports.

The largest flower-bed entitled Start covers 3,500 square meters and includes juniper, petunia, begonia, barberry, thuya, etc., two decorative water reservoirs of 124 square meters in total and a model of the Olympic torch to crown the composition.

The total area of the Flower Gardens in Luzhniki amounts to 17,000 square meters. In addition to sport, landscape designers have constructed The Golden Ring of Russia, Glorious Russia and Versailles from flowers including exotic pelargonium and cineraria. A special feature of this year's festival is the so-called Garden of Health. The visitors are welcome to recondition themselves with the help of curative plants aromas: rose, geranium, lavender, etc. The flower exhibition is open daily and the entrance is free.

Another flower gardens exhibition is on display in Kuzminki park in the south east of Moscow. It is the sixth annual floral event here, and the total area of the exhibition is twice as large as in Luzhniki - 40,000 square meters.

Although florists presenting their works in Kuzminki haven't been restricted to any particular subject, the feature of the local festival is a number of "historical" gardens dedicated to different epochs. Kuzminki is a former suburban residence of the famous Russian Golitsyn princes family. Thus, all the newly-arranged flower constructions here have a touch of luxury, while many gardens are adorned with mini-fountains.

The 'flower program' in the park is accompanied by regular musical performances. Every summer weekend classical music concerts are held near the park pond at the site in front of Musical pavilion, a 19th century building in Russian Empire style.

Since August the musical festival entitled Noble Seasons will present daily concerts of classics with the participation of musicians from Lithuania, Belorus, Poland, Austria, etc.
