An exposition devoted only to Italian photography takes place in Moscow Exhibition Center Manezh for the first time. The exposition curator Elena Geuna chose about 160 photos, half of the well-known Prelz Oltramonti collection. In her opinion, all these photos have the same vision of life, poetic and lyrical, that resides in Italy very much. These photos, taken in the country’s crucial period of time, show changes in Italy. Photos of the progenitor of the Italian art photography Mario Gabino are represented at the exposition. Another master, Ugo Mulas, according to Elena Geuna, was friends with all the artists of those days. Many of his photos show American artists at work, Andy Warhall’s studio, but he also took photographs of Italy, there are series devoted to Venetia and images of Milan suburbs too. His work is closely related to art development as a whole. In Manezh you can see photos of Giuseppe Cavalli, the famous Mario Giacomelli’s teacher, and of course photos of Mario Giacomelli himself, in particular his renowned images of priests. Another author, Piergiorgio Branzi, mainly photographed Florence and Rome, but not only squares and streets, but also trains, locomotives and carriages. Besides, the exposition presents works of Carlo Mollino, Luigi Veronesi and Giorgio Avigdor. Photos of Neapolitan photographer Mimmo Jodice, born in 1932, conclude the retrospective review. You can see his first abstract pictures, his landscapes of Naples, self-portraits and portraits of his wife.
