The Grand Hall of the Moscow State Conservatoire (opposite the Assambleya Nikitskaya Hotel) is almost ready for the inauguration of the 44th «Russian Winter» Music Festival to be held this Thursday (January, 20). According to the good old tradition, The Moscow State Philharmonic Society gives its listeners a full program of brilliant, unforgettable concerts as a present for Christmas and New Year. This year’s schedule is no exception to this rule – it features compositions of such music geniuses as Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Chopin, Rossini, Strauss, Ravel and Prokofiev. The list of the ensembles participating in the festival is also impressive: Svetlanov State Academic Orchestra, the State Symphony Orchestra «New Russia», Kogan’s Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, etc. All these facts indicate at least one thing – the connoisseurs and amateurs of the vocal art are not going to be disappointed or frustrated. At the very opening ceremony of the festival we shall have the chance to hear the Symphony Orchestra and the Choir of the Bolshoi Theatre who will perform Symphony ¹8 by Dvorzak and the Glagolitic Mass by Janacek. The concert will be conducted by the famous Chech maestro Irzhi Beloglavek, conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. «Russian Winter» gives Muscovites a unique opportunity to meet their favorite musicians, who spend most of the time touring abroad and come to Russia only to take part in the winter festival. As for the foreign guests of the Russian capital, they will be able with their own eyes to see and hear all the cream of the Russian performance school. The festival will last until January, 8.
