In 2010 the Youth Olympic Games will take place for the first time in history. Ten cities from all over the world dispute the right to host them – Algiers, Athens, Bangkok, Guatemala City, Debrecen, Kuala Lumpur, Moscow, Poznan, Singapore and Turin. According to the deputy administrator of the Russian Federal Agency on Physical Culture and Sports Sergey Korol, Athens and Moscow are the main favorites of this contest. The principle advantages of the capitals of Greece and Russia are presence of all necessary infrastructure and broad experience in organizing large-scale events. Singapore is another grave rival of Moscow. Athens hosted the Olympic games in 2004; numerous Olympic establishments were built there, which nowadays are almost vacant though. Moscow sports objects, for their turn, keep hosting World cup stages in various sports, European and world championships, and this experience could help Russia to win the race and to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2010. On November 19 three finalists of the competition will be announced. The final vote will take place in February. Last week Alexander Ratner, the editor-in-chief of the Olympic Panorama magazine, passed the Application Book of Moscow to the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Lozanna. Today the book will be officially presented in Russia. The Izmailovo Hotel Complex will accommodate the participants of the Olympic games.
