Sightseeing time: 4 h. The Tsaritsyno Museum and Reserve located in the south of Moscow is a unique monument of nature, history and architecture. Century-old trees, ancient buildings and modern constructions, for example, a large light and music fountain stay in harmony in its territory.
Guests of the museum complex will be able to take a pleasant walk along the bank of the pond, stroll through the park, and admire the buildings of the 18-19th centuries that were restored some years ago.
The dominant architectural monument of the complex is the Grand Palace built upon the project of Kazakov for Catherine the Great. The Bread House, the Small Palace, the Opera House, three Cavalier Buildings and other works by Bazhenov, bridges, pavilions, towers, arches are located nearby. There is also a church in the territory of the museum.
You won’t confuse Tsaritsyno style with anything else – a fine blend of white stone and red bricks, Gothic and classicism creates a special atmosphere. All art-lovers would be sad about the fact that the ensemble had been abandoned and had lain in ruins for several centuries after the death of Catherine II. It was restored not long ago.
