The Armoury Chamber is part of the architectural ensemble of the Great Kremlin Palace and is situated in a building erected in 1851 in compliance with the project by the artchitect Konstantin Ton. It is a world-famous treasury comprising valuable and precious items from the tsar’s treasury and patriarch’s sacristy created in the Kremlin’s workshops or received as gifts from the embassies of foreign states. The museum is named after one of the oldest Kremlin treasure houses. The museum keeps nearly 4 000 valuable objects of the decorative and applied art of Russia, European and Eastern countries of IV-early XX centuries. The exposition (9 halls) includes state regalia, ceremonial tsar’s dress and Orthodox Church hierarchs’ vestments, coronation dress, the collection of carriages and horse ceremonial harness, ceremonial weapons and arms, large collection of silverware by Russian masters and artistic silverware of Western Europe.
